The History of Pinecraft, 1925-1960: A Historical Album of the Amish and Mennonites in Pinecraft, Florida
For many years there has been a need for someone to write a book about Pinecraft, the little village just outside the city limits of Sarasota, Florida.
The history of this unique Amish and Mennonite community is well worth preserving. As its forerunners and pioneers pass on, one by one, information becomes less and less available. Memories fail as people grow older, and if it is not put in writing, there will be nothing to pass on. So we say it is high time for someone to take the time to write a book about this Amish and Mennonite community. It is primarily because of our thirty years' involvement in writing newsletters and articles in the Sugarcreek Budget, that some have approached me about it. It is with a sense of humility and unworthiness that we accept such a request. We have tried to be accurate, but we realize that on a subject of this scope errors are possible, but certainly not intentional. It is our desire that all we write will in the end bring glory to God and bless every reader.
In the following chapters and pages, we wish to show you how Pinecraft came into being in the early 1920s and until now has been a "Haven of Rest" for mostly Amish and Mennonite people. -Noah Gingerich, October 2005
